Civil Engineering

We routinely carry out civil engineering projects of varying scales, working under both traditional and Design & Build arrangement.

We have a proven track record of successfully delivering the following activities:

Ground Regeneration

Development of brownfield sites can be very challenging due to the legacy issues remaining from the previous use. We have developed numerous sites to make way for new residential, commercial and public open spaces.

These works have included remediation of contaminated land, underground demolition and clearing, material screening, processing, ground modelling and verification.

Earthworks

Development of green field sites can require the existing ground to be cleared and reprofiled to provide suitable developable space. We have experience in delivering small to large scale projects.

These works include site clearance of trees, vegetation and topsoil as well and cut to fill of subsoils to provide reengineered ground profiles suitable for development.

Environmental Improvements

We have a portfolio of working in live river channels and watercourses. In recent years we have diverted, naturalised and improved waterways. There is a greater focus on sustainability and flood protection and these factors are now a great influence on new and existing developments.

Reinforced Concrete Structures

RC structures are a common feature of civil engineering projects. We have experience in constructing both precast and in-situ solutions.

We are also skilled at the, often complex, design and implementation of temporary works, support and dewatering operations which are prerequisites for this type of construction.

Section 38 Roads

Many developments have the requirement for new adoptable roads to service the units being built. This is stipulated by a Section 38 agreement in the planning permission. The requirement of such an agreement is to build the carriageways and footways to meet the local highways authority’s adoption standards. Constructed under the supervision of the local highways authority’s inspector, these assets move on to a period of maintenance before formal adoption. Road Safety Audits will also be required.

Section 278 Roads

Larger developments are sometimes required by their planning permission to alter and improve the existing highway to accommodate the additional traffic resulting from the development. This is stipulated by a Section 278 agreement. The requirements are to upgrade the carriageways and footways to meet the local highways authority’s requirements and to the applicable adoption standards. Constructed under the supervision of the local highways authority’s inspector, these assets move on to a period of maintenance before formal adoption. Road Safety Audits will also be required.

Drainage

Dependant on the project, various drainage solutions are required. We have experience and capabilities in delivering storm and foul water solutions in both private and domestic settings including pumping stations, rising mains, storage and SUDS.

Existing drainage networks also need maintaining and upgrading due to age or change of standards. Assessments and designs can be made following line, level and conditional surveys.

New Services and Utilities

We have completed numerous projects which had a requirement for new incoming services. We have experience in dealing with statutory undertakers as well as multi utilities contractors to facilitate the new supplies for developments.

We routinely install the trench and duct systems needed for the services, including backfilling and reinstatement in accordance with the relevant specification.

Landscaping

The crowning glory to most projects is the landscaping. Throughout any project, thought should be given to the landscaping requirements that will be the most visual aspect.

Getting the ground conditions right before planting is extremely important. Quality supply and maintenance is key to lasting results.
