Challenge

The client required a community focused local centre to utilise a plot at the heart of the new Kingsgrove development in Wantage, near Oxford. Owned by the CO-OP, the local centre is mixed-use development offering a large convenience store, 3 retail units and a children’s nursery. To deliver the client’s vision, the project demanded a high quality finish with a focus on detail. The design included a challenging development containing part-steel frame, extensive brick and blockwork, large detailed timber trussed roofs and rendered ‘flying gables’. The project included: –

Groundworks
Drainage and services
Building works
Mechanical and electrical systems
Hard and soft landscaping

All of the elements of the project were to be delivered in a busy environment, directly next to a school, therefore it was imperative to minimise disruption and be respectful of the local community.

Solution

Assembling a team of trusted people and suppliers, we commenced the project with a clear plan and programme designed to achieve the occupation date of the end user.

Due to the detailed build a key component of this was the detailed coordination required between not only us and our delivery team, but also the client and their consultants, the new services providers (BT, electricity and water), Building Control, the Clinet’s management team and the end user and their fit-out contractors.

The project was completed, signed off and handed over on programme and within budget. The Local Centre opened in March 2025 and has been a huge success locally and in the wider area.
