Challenge

The Client required a quick delivery of a suitably engineered platform to facilitate the construction of the new grid infrastructure.

The site was covered in dense vegetation and works due to take place during bird nesting season. The existing site soils were susceptible to wet weather so needed to be managed carefully to avoid replacement, additional, imported material. The project included: –

Site clearance
Topsoil management
Surface water drainage attenuation
Platform construction
Working platform
Soft landscaping
Testing and validation

Solution

Prior to commencing the work on site, bird nesting mitigation measures were put in place and a watching brief provided by an ecologist during the vegetation clearance.

The site was divided into grid squares to manage the material movements and reengineering efficiently. A full testing strategy was implemented and verified prior to the platform construction. The earthworks and drainage were prioritised and upon handover of the platform the external landscaping and associated works then continued. This allowed the foundations to commence prior to full completion of the enabling works.
