Challenge
Our client has a requirement to maintain 45,000 litres of readily available water for firefighting purposes at a school in a rural setting.
Solution
This was achieved using their outdoor swimming pool. Over the years, the pool had fallen out of use and had become dilapidated and a health and safety risk. Whilst the school’s need for a swimming pool had gone, its obligations under fire safety legislation had not. The school wished for an outside contemplation zone in the area of the former pool and originally planned for decking over the redundant pool.
As this posed further health and safety risks over time, the ideal solution was to install a tank and backfill to enable hard landscaping to be installed over the top. We proposed the use of a storm water storage tank filled using rainwater harvested from an adjacent building. A depth gauge was installed to easily demonstrate that the tank was adequately filled at all times.
